Dontcha just love it!

I just finished one of those jobs where, basically, in addition to doing whatever translation is necessary, I was to choreograph my way into and out of revisions mode so as to make the revisions that appear in the Russian translation appear in the English original as well. I found this is exceedingly hard to do, given the following circumstances:
  • Revisions - if that is what they were intended to be - were marked by hand.

  • Markup that appears to reflect text added to the translation often corresponds to text that already appears in the original document.

  • Markup that appears to reflect text deleted from the translation frequently corresponds to text that does not appear in the original document.

  • Some of the text that appears in the translation with no markup does not appear in the original document.

I am also bothered by the fact that, in places, the English - which is supposed to be the original document - makes no sense (or at least not as much sense as the translation). Fortunately, this abomination was only 4 pages long, and I still love my job.

Now, for some coffee.

Cheers...
