Dent visible...
We spent part of the day yesterday wiping down the underside of the first floor and the supporting rafters, as we had started to notice mold growing there and on some of our things. It's an aggressive mold, too, destroying surfaces of plastic and unprotected wood. Hopefully, we've done enough to suppress the nastiness for several months, though I expect to get a data point when I return from Kazakhstan.
I managed to get all of the packed boxes of books downstairs and stacked neatly, and in other respects the basement is starting to look less cluttered, but the operative word there is "less." This, despite what appears to be a pretty nasty cough and overall cold-like malaise that drove me to the mattress three times today. Hopefully, I'll feel better tomorrow, when our new renter and a crew he's having help him move will be by.
In contrast with last year, where after missing several days of NaNoWriMo, I threw in the towel on the grounds of being too far behind to start, I made up for missing the kickoff yesterday by laying down 2100 words down today, which puts me 1200 or so words behind the pace, which isn't as good as being up to date, but also much better than being two days behind.
I had hoped to use the Dragon NaturallySpeaking voice recognition software to help me write some of the text - yes, I broke down and bought a copy for Vista - but it does such a miserable job of recognizing my voice that I'm beginning to think its database got scrambled early on, and maybe I need to reinstall (or more precisely, retrain) the software. One thing is for sure, though, I should probably do it when I don't sound like Froggie the Gremlin.
Cheers...
