Doug Thompson publishes interesting pieces at D.C. Darkside.

But, as the name implies, this is not your inspirational, cheerful, Chuck-Osgood-y kind of writing. It is... somber and dark.

His current essay, "Suddenly, it was all over," really hit me. A couple of others I read, such as The sounds of Thunder are strongly written.
