TPTB have apparently decided to inflict some kind of puerile idiocy that eats screen real estate on those who have Cyrillic services enabled, and as far as I can tell - after some short struggle - this "feature" cannot be turned off!

(On the bright side, these people are only in charge of LiveJournal, and not something really important!)
