Not doing so well...

I woke up at around 3 am and could not fall asleep again, only to develop a low-grade fever early in the morning. I've slept, on and off, throughout the day. I look forward to feeling better tomorrow.

I also look forward to Halloween, the passage of which will allow that most distasteful and mightily overused word ("spooktacular") to be retired until next year.

One of my ongoing curses since my surgery (and in fact before it) has been an easily disturbed sleep. I didn't sleep a wink the entire time I was in the hospital. I've slowly been phasing out middle of the night waking and lurking awake for hours. Finally, Saturday night, I basically slept all night with just a minor wake-up at about 1 a.m. I thought I was cured. Then last night I went to bed around 10 and lay there awake for hours. Finally at midnight I got up and took some tylenol, and fifteen minutes later, some benadryl. Finally I slept. I hope tonight is better.

My only theory is that the 6 oz. I drank of strong coffee at breakfast stayed with me all day, as it does. I hadn't had any caffeine for quite some time before yesterday's debacle. I find that caffeine usually hits me 17 or 18 hours after I consume it.

I'm doing really well, but this not sleeping thing is getting really old.
