As I was getting ready to back away from the garage and go open the store this morning, I happened to have the driver's side window open. As I engaged the reverse gear, I heard an uncharacteristic sound of a car engine, coming from the direction of the road. A few moments later, the Ford hove into view, with Galina at the wheel.

A half hour later, after drinking some coffee and doing a little fast catch-up, I left for the store, getting there at almost 8:30.

Drew wasn't there.

Oh, well. Being this late once in three years is, perhaps, excusable. I found out later that Drew was being cajoled out of bed by Shannon, with mixed success, and was attempting to stave off the inevitable by assuring her that I was going to open the store.

A Houston client called to ask if I could come down next week. I said yes. Another Houston client wrote and said that my resume looked great, but that The Powers That Be wouldn't consider having me come down for a couple of months without interviewing me first, in person. I need to handle this latter situation carefully, as I have an idea that they might view me as a supplicant, which I am most definitely not.

An assignment landed in my inbox today, with no advance phone call. Then again, it arrived late enough to make it something of a late-afternoon-when-you-get-to-it kind of message. I spent the last hour or so of store time installing software bought in Austin at the trade show, followed by another hour or so reinstalling some shipper software and migrating databases, etc. I called Galina around 20 to 7 and arranged to meet her at the kids' place at 7; on my end, I picked up a couple of containers of Chinese takeout on the way to their place.

We had a very nice visit and got all caught up. Between the software installation, hardware configuration (some left to do tomorrow), and general cleanup (I must have pitched around 7 bags of trash today), I am pretty tired, but feeling good. I plan to get up early tomorrow and take a look at the file that came in over the transom, and figure out just how much of it I can handle in what time frame.

Cheers...
