Finally...

In recent months, I've been altogether overwhelmed by the urgent, to the detriment of the important, which subsumes many of the things that make life interesting.

Back around the time I started my LiveJournal, we had just moved from Houston back to Colorado, where—among other things—I joined the local search & rescue team, mostly because just about everyone in the ham radio group was an S&R member, and it sounded like a public-minded thing to do.

Part of the process involved obtaining a Colorado concealed-carry permit, mostly because a handgun can be a useful tool if you're out in the woods (or out in what is legally considered "wilderness").

Since we moved back to Texas in 2012, I've toyed with the idea of getting the local Texas equivalent, but it never seemed to be the right time to put aside what amounts to a day to do the mandatory class and live-fire exercise that are required for the LTC (License to Carry) application.

Many things fall into this class, and eventually, you have to realize that if you don't pencil them into your schedule, they will never happen.

So this past week, I singed up for today's class (and predictably, something came up that—based on past experience—would have bumped the class had I not simply put my foot down, mentally). While the classroom session was mostly stuff that I'd learned before, some of the information was new and worth hearing. The live-fire portion was just plain fun.

I shall have to take steps to make sure that urgent things do not crowd out the things that make life more... full.

Cheers...
