This morning, former cosmonaut Vladimir Soloviev (currently deputy ISS program manager on the Russian side, if memory serves) called the crew to wish Mike Foale a happy birthday. It was a fairly chatty session that included the recounting of the following anecdote:
FWIW, one of the flight directors came by yesterday to videotape me and Leonid for a multimedia file to be sent as a mass birthday greeting from everyone (or nearly so) here at the MCC. I hope Mike enjoys it.

A birthday celebration is being held at a theater and everyone is carrying on. Off to one side, two actors stand quietly, observing the wild party. One is a pessimist; the other, an optimist.Rim shot! (Just kidding!)
"They've forgotten us," says the first actor. "That's why they didn't invite us."
"I disagree," says the second actor, and continues, "they haven't forgotten us. That's why they didn't invite us."
