Settling some hash...
I called the client that had called yesterday and arranged for my stint to start on the 16th. I figure to leave on Friday or Saturday. This will allow plenty of time for the accountant to meet with me (when I called today, he said to call Monday to make an appointment), and to take my turn in the barrel for jury duty.
As is usual, I got a call late in the afternoon wanting to know if I can take some mind-numbing quantity of work for "as soon as possible." This is the same client that some time ago was driven to split a document in two, assigning one half to me and the other half to someone else, all because of a purportedly tight schedule. I managed to submit my half on time, as - I suppose - did the other translator, but the project manager then tried to get me to edit the other half, again in crunch mode. I declined, because I had another assignment going on, though I suspect I would have declined anyway, because editing translations really and truly is not my cup of java.
( Post scriptum: I heard from the project manager again after finishing that next job; it turns out the other half still hadn't been edited, and would I...? By this time, I had another job, and declined again.)
Anyway, the bulk of the job is about 6,000 source words which I have promised for Wednesday morning. That might leave me free enough to take Sunday off and relax.
Now there's an idea.
Cheers...
