Some weirdnesses encountered in the course of business...

Those AOL CDs that tout "700 free hours" intend for the unwitting victim to use up these hours (or lose them) within a month of signing up. Seeing as there are only 720 hours in a 30-day month, it would appear to be mightily difficult to take full advantage of this offer. And for such service...it's a shame.

From the Libertarian Party: "Just two months after accepting a raise to an exorbitant $145,100 a year, House representatives are working behind the scenes to enact a 'per diem' expense allowance of $165 per working day. With about 151 legislative days per year, the raise would amount to a $25,000-a-year, tax-exempt pay hike." Basically, it turns out that, over the past several years, our Congresscritters have voted themselves increases totaling more than $80,000 annually. The average Joe (and Jane) make less than the amount of the increase. I don't often write my Congresscritter, but I may just do so in this case.

Ye gods.

Cheers...

While my last congressman, a moderate Republican, had small and frequent town meetings, sent out a newsletter, had a website and answered his own email, my current creature, a liberal democrap, still has no website and has apparently been too busy ingratiating himself with lobbyists to bother with a newsletter or answering his email at all. I don't hold out much hope for improvement, either. He's too busy representing himself to bother to represent the rest of us.

Mumble, mumble...
