So, how much damage can a passport withstand - say, from being chewed by a dog - and not require replacement?

Is there, like, a way to get an authoritative answer (and not just someone's opinion)?

As a side issue: What is there about a passport that might make it an attractive chew toy for a dog?

I'm guessing its one of those occasions in life - if you ask anyone in 'authority' you will be told its got to be replaced!
