Back home, almost...
The flight to Atlanta must have slipped through a weak part of the jet stream, because we landed about 30 minutes ahead of our scheduled arrival time. The formalities passed with no bumps, and since I have two hours until the Albuquerque flight departs, I figured I'd stop by the food court here in Concourse E and "jack in" (wirelessly, of course).
I took the opportunity of being strapped into an airplane seat to finally review my progress on my 101/1001 list. The so-so news is that I haven't really made any progress on too many of my goals; the absolutely stunning news is that I cannot recall every actually having taken the time to do such a review so early in the year.
I will do better this month.
I also put a small dent in a book I picked up in Moscow during this trip, by one Evgeniy Grishkovets, who was an author unknown to me before I picked up his book Год ЖЖизни. The title caught my eye as I browsed in the Moskva bookstore on Tverskaya because the letter digram "ЖЖ" is the way Russian LJers refer to "LJ" (Живой Журнал is a literal translation of Live Journal), so the title is not easily translated (essentially, "A Year of LJ Life," but not as elegant).1
As you might expect, the book is an edited, condensed version of one year of the author's LJ entries. And it's something like number 4 in sales among new books, which would indicate that Grishkovets is an author that commands attention.
It occurs to me that, after 8+ years of posting, there might also be a book somewhere within my tappings (which brings to mind Michelangelo's line about "knowing what part to chip away" when considering a block of marble for a statue). Looking only at the essays I've written for LJ Idol, there are probably about 20,000 words there of better-than-average material, but of course, there remains the issue of who might be interested in reading the result or (restated) how to market such a book to make people want to read it.
Apropos of which, I am among the "Top 40" remaining in the LJ Idol competition and would like to be among the "Top 35." With that in mind, I commend to you my latest essay (and an earnest plea to support your neighborhood LJ Idol contestant by casting a vote for me in this week's poll).

A Year of LifeAlternatively, maybe create a letter "J" that superposes the characters "i" and "j" and distinguishes them using color, and use the result as the "i" in "Life."
