Pretty neat...

Leo Rising Over Trees, November 2002

I submitted this image of the constellation Leo, which I took with a 30-sec or so exposure in the middle of the night back in 2002 during the annual Leonid meteor shower, to the flickr astrometry group and got a pretty good report back about what stars could be identified (click the link for more detail).

My original LJ post on the subject is here.

Cheers...

P.S. The LJ Idol schedule accelerates! This week, I'm one of nine participants in an LJ Idol poll on the subject of Achilles' heel. Two of the nine will be "retired" by 6 pm EST on Saturday. Your support is appreciated!

Wow; that's a fantastic photo!

Thanks.

I don't know if you visited the flickr page, but the image has a bunch of markups that reference the major stars appearing in the shot.

(I was curious about why the big, bright "star" hadn't been identified, and managed to figure out it was the planet Jupiter.)

Cheers...

Hope you don't mind,; I added you as a friend. Anyone who writes such nice LJ idol entries is probably at least as interesting to read on a daily basis! (I'm the mom of one of the participants. You can try to figure out which one!)

I don't mind at all, though on a daily basis, I do tend to go on and on about my translation work.

(Do I get any clues as to which participant? :^)

Cheers...
