...and more of the same.

I continued my self-imposed retreat in my sanctum, as Galina did the million little things she felt had to be done before wheels-up tomorrow at 9 am. I finished off the translation and sent it back to the office, as I'll be taking Galina to the airport, which is on the other side of rush hour from here.

I spent some time looking at the customization code for LJ, and although it looked arcane and mysterious the first time I viewed it, it now begins to make sense. I've been making some minor tweaks to the code, which would be apparent only to anyone who visits my LiveJournal regularly. Once I have a little time...

I've spent some time using the LJ "random" feature, despite the risk - pointed out in a post by sanssouci - of randomly landing on a page with "adult" content. What I have found in my random ramblings is not so much content that might give the innocent passer-by the wrong impression of what LJ is all about, but content that is damn near unreadable. Without having kept any records of my travels, it just seems to me that way too many folks have set up their pages to have a black background with text colors running the gamut from dark green, to dark blue, to dark gray. The only way to actually read the stuff, short of unlimbering the `lynx' browser on my trusty Linux box, is to highlight it with the mouse. Anyway, to each his (or her) own.

Greetings to new friend chirstyn, who not only employs a relaxing combination of foreground and background colors in her LiveJournal, but whose posts are a pleasure to read.

Cheers...

I agree. I don't know how many times I've had to highlight people's entries just to read them. Now, I just tend to skip over them. Especially @ night. I tend to read other's journals when I can't sleep...

lol i hear that

nothing like thinking you might hve found something interesting in lynx and ten finding it unreadable, console is a killer way to use a superior o/s on a low resorces machine(i know from experience hehe)

I think you misunderstood my point. Given the tendency of some LJers to display their output using dark letters on a dark background, it turns out that something as `primitive' as lynx is about the only way to read such journals comfortably.

Never underestimate the power of a lynx. :^)

P.S. FWIW, this response was posted using lynx. No GUIs were involved, and none were harmed in the composition of this message.

I agree. I aplaud you of going through the trouble of trying to read some of those things. I just push another random button.

Well, the key verb is "try." Without wanting to appear overly judgmental, much of what I read on folks' pages confirms Sturgeon's Law (as applied to journals :^), so I follow your example and use my mouse to good effect.

It's the journals that are are simultaneously readable (content-wise) and unreadable (display-wise) that bug me. I just have to work too hard to get at the content, kinda like shelling a sunflower seed.

Cheers...

Unreadable journals.

They drive me wacky! I'm lysdexic (that's dyslexic, of course) and really dark backgrounds with dark coloured text is *impossible* to read, the words just swim on the screen.

You make a totally awesome point Alex, I think you should go on the eye-easy-colours campaign trail!!

It's an idea, but there's entirely too much campaignin' goin' on, right now.
