Fighting a sour mood...

Nothing quite starts to sour the day like a robocall on one's cell that starts "Please hold for an important business call..." and then drops you into on-hold music. It's a minor annoyance, to be sure—cured with a flick of the thumb to disconnect the call—but it's like the first minute crack inflicted by a small pebble on a car windshield: it creates a weakness that can be exploited by subsequent assaults on one's general mood.

But that's only the case if I let it be that way, so maybe I should concentrate on letting it go.

My solution is to not bother to answer my phone anymore. It just goes to answering machine and if anyone who knows me is on the line, they know to just yell so I'll hear them and I'll pick up if I'm around. These days, 98% of calls are robo or just plain spam. I only keep the line for the ability to make outgoing calls, connect to the internet when the wireless is down, and for the number. At some point it just won't be worth it and it'll get ditched.

Ooo, I hate being put on hold by a robot. More than any other kind of telemarketer.
