Zip-a-dee-doo-dah!

It was a good thing Galina was standing next to the sink this morning when the coupling on the hot water line to the faucet broke apart. The result was a pretty wet kitchen, because I could not get to the cutoff valve (which was some distance behind a copious spray of hot water), requiring me to run to the garage, grab a wrench, and then hie myself out to the street, to the cutoff valve for the house.

I ended up replacing both of the rubber grommets, as the one that had originally been on the hot water line had been installed in a sort of haphazard manner. Things are returning to normal, slowly, but it looks like I'm probably going to have to stay behind this morning to play catch-up while Galina goes to pick up Natalie at the airport.

More later, maybe.

I hate it when that happens. I used to use old-fashioned compression fittings for water, but the last time I used them was in a remodel I did for a friend. All was well until the water company, for reasons unknown, jacked up the pressure in the main more than double, whereupon all the compression fittings blew apart, soaking the basement apartment. The water company paid for the repairs. Ever since then I've used the flexible lines that screw firmly on the shutoff valves, preferable the stainless steel braided ones, and I've never blown one of those. Knock on wood ;)
