Holiday meat...

About the only noticeable thing about having eaten steak twice over this past weekend was the novelty of having meat on one's plate.

I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. That said—and novelty aside—I found that I had not "missed" eating beef at all. (Nor, as I have heard suggested by proponents of a meatless diet, did I experience any kind of adverse reaction from allowing meat to pass my lips after over two months of not eating meat, aka "detoxification.")

Generally speaking, we seem to be doing well with the no-beef-chicken-or-pork diet that we've adopted. I'm still near my recent historical lows, weight-wise.

I don't eat a lot of meat, and rarely beef. But, being surrounded by many who are avid proponents of a vegetarian diet, I have long looked upon such fare as a good thing. Enter diabetes. Alas, I find that the recommended low carb diet pretty much puts the kibbosh on meals of beans or chickpeas, or lentils, or split peas. Fooey. It's the "healthy" meals I miss the most. Fruit, not so good. Fruit juice, fohgeddaboudit.
