Spam motherlode...

Suddenly, my inbox is filling with spam from some outfit in Chile.

The good news: only 4 spams in a 24-hour period.

The bad news: the total data associated with those 4 messages is better than half a megabyte.

A quick Google search shows that this ISP is a known spam generator.

Filtering these messages to /dev/null is not a problem. But in order to filter it, I need to download it from my mail server. With DSL, a half meg of junk is not that big a deal, in the scheme of things, but I can only imagine the nightmare this would be if I were still connected to the world via copper at 1.5 kilobyte per second.

In my experience, complaining to spammers - or their ISPs - only increases the volume of spam received ("Hey, look at this... a real person at the other end of this e-mail address! Let's sell the address to everyone we know!").

It's a good thing I use procmail.

Cheers...
