Waiting...

I spent much of the day yesterday doing on-the-fly Web development (meaning: writing CGI scripts between customers). I think we now have a database that is up to date, give or take an item or two.

There was no word from Drew or Shannon at any time during the day. Galina kept assuring me it's because they're on the road home. It's almost 7:30 am and they're still not here, and I am beginning to worry. A little.

We rented Mulholland Drive yesterday. I seem to recall seeing the word "mystery" on the box and, of course, many misspent hours reading Chandler and Macdonald, among others, led me to believe this would be a crime thriller.

Boy, was I wrong.

The only "mystery" in this movie is why David Lynch bothered to make it, or why anyone would want to spend all that time building up a good mystery with what seem to be converging plot lines, only to have the story freak out completely into something between delerium tremens and a bad LSD trip. If there is any coherence in the last third of the film, I missed it, and neither the story nor the characters are engaging enough for me to want to sit and watch the film over and over again to glean possible hidden "clues" as to what it all "means."

Until this morning, I had not lifted a finger to start packing for the trip down to Houston. I got up at 6 and spent an hour picking things out and throwing them into a box. Since Drew's not back yet, Lee and I will have to stay, at least until after we've picked up the mail for the store. Frankly, however, I get this feeling that we'll probably leave tomorrow morning, first thing, which will leave us a few hours after the store closes to get our stuff together for the trip.

Then again, I don't go anywhere until and unless the kids show up from California. There is no way I can leave Galina to fend for herself alone in the store.

Anyway, if Lee and I don't leave today, then Galina and I will be able to make it to a ballroom dancing exhibition from 6 to 10 tonight, at a local eatery/dancery known as "The Timbers." The exhibition will feature a young couple that is trying to raise money for some international competition or other, and apparently a lot of people will be there.

Time to get ready to go open the store.

Cheers...
