Plan B...

There's no percentage in continuing to retrace my steps down I-59 toward New Orleans, as Humberto promises to dump a lot of rain in my path.

It also doesn't make sense to stay put, since Humberto will only get closer (albeit weaker) in the next 24 hours.

So I plan to boogie out of here soonest and take I-20 west from Meridian (though technically, I'm already on I-20 here in in Tuscaloosa) and scoot across the top of Louisiana. I'll then try to "cut the corner" starting at Shrevesport, with the idea of ending up on US-59, which will lead me eventually to Houston. I'll be adding miles to the trip, but it seems the best alternative.

If cutting the corner doesn't make sense, I can continue on toward Dallas, overnight somewhere, and finish the trip tomorrow. (Hey, [livejournal.com profile] rillifane! Got a spare cot anywhere?)

Cheers...

Home, at last...

The plan to bypass Humberto worked, adding about 100 miles to the trip. I also got to see a new section of Interstate, all while avoiding potentially nasty rain and flooding along the Gulf coast.

In the end, I got home around 5:30 pm, and promptly napped, which I do not think will interfere with my falling asleep in the next few minutes.

It's good to be home.

Cheers...
