Crimea River...

I don't know why the subject popped into my mind, except that it was probably my very first mondegreen, and what made it all the more strange was that I was a tender lad of junior high school age when I heard those words - instead of the more, um, romantic "Cry me a river!" - being sung on the Ed Sullivan Show.

What that has to do with anything is beyond me, except that I'm about to ship off 17,716 words of translation, so I'm feelin' pretty chipper!

Cheers...

No rest (almost)...

Moments after sending off this past weekend's obsession, I got a call to do another 1600 words for 3 pm for my best client. I accepted. While working on that, I got an email asking if I'd be willing to edit 4,000 words by 4 pm. I said no, and no again when asked how long after starting at 3 pm would it take for me to finish such an edit. There's an unspoken assumption in there, somewhere. I put my foot down.

Our builder is over installing the kitchen. Progress is slow, because the walls really are not plumb, which has resulted in a some modicum of demolition. On the bright side, what is supposed to be the dining room is starting to clear.

I often fall asleep with earphones on, listening to either music or language tapes. Two nights ago, I had my first confirmation that it is possible to "hear" what's being played while you're asleep, though not in the sense of "subliminal learning."

I had a strange dream - sound only, with some flickering shadows as accompaniment - where I was being spoken to in Japanese. For the life of me, I couldn't understand a word, but my interlocutor was unrelenting. This seemed to go on for quite some time. Later, I sort of "surfaced" from sleep enough to note that my SanDisk player was still chirping, and that I was something like 16 lessons into the Japanese course that I loaded on the thing some time ago.

So much for my interlocutor.

Today's 1600 word job put me over the top for my April "nut," with two days to spare. I'm happy.

So happy, I've rented Charlie Wilson's War, which I'm going to watch with Galina after I post this.

Cheers...
