Taking a break from work...
After editing over 7,000 words of The Big Edit™, I felt I had to get out of the house and focus my eyeballs on something a bit further away from my retina than my computer screen.
It's not as if I had to really convince myself.
It rained over toward the mountains two nights ago, and again last night, with the sky over the mountains flickering in a wild dance of thunderbolts that seemed alive. I tried to capture a moment of that performance with my camera, but was not able to, even after attempting to use a "motion detection" script written for my Canon's replacement CHDK software. (In fact, this morning, when I turned my camera on, it immediately shut itself off and continued to behave like that until I changed the name of the script on the SD card, after which the camera started without a problem.)
Fortunately, although I was unable to photograph the lightning, I was able to capture the sunset before that, when the western sky was tinted various hues of blue, pink, and yellow.
After two evenings in a row of rain, I was confident of finding something at Site Lima, and I did!
Lobster mushrooms! (Finally!)
Besides these specimens of Hypomyces lactifluorum, I also found a number of Lactarius and Russula mushrooms, which explains the source of the lobsters (all of which look like parasitized Lactarius). I also found quite a number of the yellow Amanitas not far away.
My "break" took two hours. For now, it's back to the face of the salt mine.
