Almost another week gone...
A healthy chunk of work came in today, and got sent out the door soon after lunch. The "centerpiece" of the work was one of those documents described as having "a few changes" (that were even highlighted using Word's highlighter feature—instead of revision mode), which in actuality represented a document that was substantially different from the last iteration seen around these parts.
It makes no sense to complain to the originators. Attempting to explain stuff like this is like trying to teach a gerbil to juggle: it's a thorough waste of time and it doubtless annoys the gerbil.
I happened to run across a new wrinkle in the org-mode end of the world. It's an extension called org-drill, which employs spaced repetition to conduct interactive flash card drills using a variety of flash card formats. These include simple topics (question and answer), double-sided topics (where question and answer can be swapped, as with foreign language flashcards), cloze deletion (e.g., "The capital of Texas is [...]," where the expected answer is Austin), and clozed text hints (e.g., "Type 1 hypersensitivity reactions are mediated by [molecule] and [cell type]," which are (as the name suggests) cloze deletions with hints. There are other types as well, including user-defined card types, but I really haven't gotten that far into the documentation.
The extension appears to have quite a number of customization features that I look forward to acquainting myself with, but not now. Right now, I have to go off and inspect the inside of my eyelids for, oh, about 7 hours.
Cheers...
