Sort of declaring this weekend to be a holiday...

It's not a holiday, of course, nor will "Labor Day" be a holiday for me next week, but I shall abandon my early-to-rise rules for the next two days to see what kind of impact it will have on my productivity, which has suffered of late.

I learned a new term today—retromingent, which describes animals that urinate "backwards" (in the sense that the urine is expelled in the backward direction), such as camels, raccoons, and, I believe, lions.

From a piece by Jonah Goldberg, writing about Sid Blumenthal:
I think it was Diogenes who first observed that no charity can claim to be truly noble if you can find Blumenthal’s retromingent trail greasing its corridors, his taffy-like saliva cobwebbing the corners like in an Alien movie.
As interesting as the word is, and as much as I might agree with Goldberg's take on Blumenthal, the question in my mind remains: why is being described in this manner particularly pejorative?

That shall remain a question for another day.

For now, I shall get to the point where I have fewer than 500 words left in the current document, and I shall call it a day.

Cheers...
