I kid you not.

I became aware of the faint sound of bagpipes coming in through the cracked-open window during a break in the sound of the latest Heroes episode. I paused the action and went outside, and sure enough, the sound of bagpipes was slicing through the wind!

I cannot describe adequately the combination of it being dark, of being outside, and of hearing bagpipes! It was eerie, but in a good way. (Then again, I've no general aversion to bagpipe music; in fact, I like 'em. I would imagine someone who is not familiar with the skirl of the bagpipes might disagree with my assessment.)

I took a walk around the house to get a fix on the source and guessed that there's a concert of some kind going on at the church that's not far from our property. I hear the pipes right now through the open window as I write this.

We laid my dad to rest today, next to my mom. My parents' best friends - bless 'em - attended the church service and funeral and then prepared a post-funeral repast at the house of a third mourner, the granddaughter of another friend who owned a house not far from where my parents lived.

I also agreed to translate 3,000 words for my best client, for tomorrow noon. I don't plan to get much of that done tonight; instead, I plan to cut short my viewing of Heroes and get a good night's sleep.

After I spend some time outside listening to the sound of bagpipes soaring through the trees!

Cheers...

I love the pipes. My dad played them when he was younger, but I never heard him.

If you hear scrabbling in your dreams, it's only some of us LJ-friends checking to make sure you are all tucked up and resting. . . . .

How wonderful! Similar incidents have happened to me while traveling in Scotland, and I welcome them. My dad played the pipes most of his life so the sound always evokes strong feelings.
