The translation haul for the day is about 5,000 target words, with about 900 words left for tomorrow morning. More proposed work arrived in the afternoon, of the "tell us how much you can turn around by COB tomorrow" variety, in a file of some 18,000 words, some of which have been "pretranslated" (and therefore, not paid as translation, but as editing, even in cases where the translated segments were only a 70% match to the source text). Fortunately, the work currently on the plate will do for now, so I was able to bow out of the scramble.

* * *In other news, a French article on a site called Satmag notes that the French global news agency AFP (Agence France-Presse) apparently decided that any material posted to Twitter (and presumably, other social networks) no longer belongs to the poster.

At least that's what AFP argued in a case in the Southern District of New York, after a photographer complained to AFP about having appropriated some of his photographs without payment or even credit. AFP is alleging commercial defamation and wants the court to bring in a finding of noninfringement.

A key aspect in the case is the Twitter (and Twitpic) terms of use, which state that the services can share or sell anything that is posted on their sites.

* * *I woke at 2:30 am and could not fall asleep for a while. In fact, at 4 am, I fetched my binoculars and did a little star-gazing from my bedroom window. I soon did fall asleep, and by the time I got up at 7 am, it was snowing. The snow melted quickly, but occasional flakes kept falling throughout the day. By the time the sun went down, it had begun to snow again.

Gotta love that snow, y'know?
