Well, according to Gary, he was catching some flak about "allowing someone to stay in despite missing the deadline," which doesn't sound like my situation at all.
I had originally declared a bye, mentioning that
Unless I get back in time to edit a link to a post into this comment (or unless the rules prohibit it), I will be taking my third bye. Other, more pressing obligations must take precedence.
As it turned out, my other obligations left me free enough to change the bye announcement to an entry just after 7 pm Eastern, but I neglected to call Gary's attention to the change, and the rest is history.
I guess there were just a whole lotta other things going on in other parts of LJ Idol as well. :^)
