Today was one of those really good days. I spent the better part of the morning cleaning up around the place, anticipating company in the afternoon (Feht). Took a shower and then visited the grocery store and laid in some serious holiday victuals: beer, ribs, salad ingredients, some fruit. (We set a simple table around here.)

Feht came over around 5. He asked if there was anything he could bring, and I said yes. Big mistake. Sort of. When he arrives, it takes three trips to unload the car of enough pastry, cake, and other goodies as to cloy the palates of any fifty normal humans. But that's Feht for you.

We did the usual (nothing, unless you consider eating and drinking to be activities). Later, we talked some, watched the first half hour of a rented, colorized version of Cyrano de Bergerac (the one with Jose Ferrer, which will be the subject of a separate diatribe), and then settled down to an evening listening to an unending stream of firecrackers, buzz bombs, bottle rockets, cherry bombs, whistlers, and "legitimate" fireworks, sound effects that proceeded far into the night and way after Feht went back to his hotel.

Cheers...
