Got to work late this morning. On the way, I felt what I describe as a bronchial twinge, similar but less intense than several I experienced several years ago just before landing in the local hospital's intensive care unit. About two hours into the work day, I was feeling no better, so I decided to call it a day and go home. Slept some. Ate a little bit. Here I am, recuperating. I feel better; there have been no twinges since I slept and downed some vitamin C tablets. The night will tell, methinks, and I think I'll be okay by morning.

Last night's celebration was a rather staid affair. I think everyone's had quite enough of each other by now, at least to the point where the novelty of getting together to break bread after work has worn off. I believe there was also some preoccupation with travel plans (the Russians all left today). At any rate, the number of toasts proposed (two from each side) support these hypotheses, though I must say the toasts were quite eloquent. Too bad they were made to such a small company; such stirring words ought to have a broader audience.

Both sides spoke of hard work. Accomplishment was mentioned. International cooperation took center stage, along with crew training and the integration of thousands of pieces of equipment from all over the world. I heard serious people engaged in serious affairs talk of returning to the Moon, exploring Mars, and perhaps even traveling to the moons of Jupiter, where - evidence strongly suggests - there may be life. If all of this is to be, I wonder how far down the road it will be?

However far it may be, come what may, I've got to be at a Boeing telecon tomorrow morning bright and early at 6:30 am, so it's early to bed for me.

Cheers...

P.S. I don't remember exactly how, but somebody's LiveJournal here directed me to paris, whose posts rate following as a friend.
