Finding your way around the store...
Oct. 28th, 2000 07:35 pmWe went shopping today, and I was struck by an interesting irony. My folks live in an area where they have become accustomed to very personalized service from the merchants they patronize. We went to a grocery store yesterday, and one of the guys in the deli department catered to my father's every whim.
On the other hand, today I couldn't find anyone to help me in a local Barnes and Noble or Tower Records to address some pretty simple requests. I gave up trying to get my questions answered in the bookstore, where the employees were capable only of accepting money for a purchase, and managed to get help at the record store only by standing in the checkout line and asking my question of the fellow who was prepared to ring up my sale.
The trip goes well, but it's really hard to get a few minutes to myself and post any kind of meaningful thoughts.
Cheers...
