Savoring a day off...
Nov. 27th, 2000 08:06 pmNot really a day off, but after 18 days of work, it sure feels like one.
The day was off to an early start as I serviced two telecons this morning, and then dropped by the office to submit my invoice for last week. I plan to make this a weekly exercise (finally, an exercise I can get "into"!).
Talking about exercise, Galina and I went over to the Pearland house and did a sweep-cleaning of the inside, and I got rid of the last of the construction debris from the back yard. The intended plan for the immediate future is to "downsize" our stuff so that it fits in the Pearland house - I think this will take the form of a huge donation to charity - and then rent the place we're in now.
[Just as Verizon (the company formerly known as GT&E - gruesome, terrible, and expensive) gets around to providing DSL around here, wouldn't you guess. But that's another story.]
There are some other irons in the fire right now...and one of them involves writing an offer to buy a business. The offer has - after enough plot twists and turns to qualify as a soap opera scenario - been negotiated to the point where we just signed and returned the last counter-counter-...counter-offer, so the next step is to convince a bank that all of this is a Good Idea, and that they would be doing a Good Thing for all concerned if they were to cough up some mazuma to make a number of dreams (e.g., ours and the Sellers) come true. Film in a couple of weeks, depending on how things go...
In the meantime, over the next couple of days, I'll continue to do my thing and help folks at NASA make sure that all the i's are dotted and all the t's are crossed for this Thursday night's scheduled launch of STS-97 (aka ISS 4A).
Talking about STS-97, I found out today that I'm working the so-called "planning" shift for the flight, so anyone who wants to catch me on NASA Select TV, live from the Flight Control Room, will have to tune in between the hours of 11:30 pm and 8:30 am. (In the standard camera shot, my console is near the top of the screen closest to the path to the door.) Those hours mean that I'll be shifting my sleep schedule again to become a night owl. Hopefully, it'll be easier this time.
Cheers...
