Weird day...
May. 21st, 2001 07:50 pmToday was one of those days filled with activity that seems to not get you any closer to any particular goal, yet is necessary.
I started the day by dropping by the client's office and handing in my final invoice for the trip. Then quick stops at the bank, post office (to send the article, finally) and the cell phone place, after which I stopped at our tenant's house in Friendswood to pick up some stuff he took out of the garage and piled by the side of the house. I moved it to our storage area. Then to the Franklin Covey store in the mall and home.
From home, Galina and I went back to Clear Lake to visit her real estate broker's office, then her one remaining listing in the are, and finally, a furniture store. Then it was back to the storage place to load the van up with stuff destined for Colorado.
Back at the house, I spent about half an hour using a weed-whacker to cut the grass (go figure), after which I unloaded some of the stuff from storage.
At this point in the day, I was bushed. I wanted to take a nap, but it started to rain and I had to throw on some clothes and go get stuff out from under the rain.
Several times during the day, I started to think of things that might make good subjects for posts here on LJ, but there was no opportunity to jot down any ideas. The only one that "stuck" was my reaction to the puerile story I half-listened to on one of those entertainment "news" shows having to do with the "rigorous training" that some of the stars of the Pearl Harbor movie underwent, for 4 (count 'em!) days.
So there's poor Ben Affleck, talking into a microphone, telling the newsies just how gruelling all of this was. Ye gods. Four days? I suppose it was better than nothing, but I'm afraid Affleck has only a dim understanding of the military life. Then again...
Lee just came back about a half hour ago... I've been going through my stuff frantically, trying to gather up various pieces of paper that have distributed themselves seemingly uniformly throughout the house. I generally end up with the upper hand when it comes to paper, but it is a struggle.
I anticipate we'll leave first thing in the morning. The trip will take about 18 hours if we don't stop for more than gas and rest rooms, and eat while moving. I'd really like to get on the road about 3 am or so, but I don't think that variant will go over too well with Galina.
But I can try... all for now...
Cheers...
