Catching up...
Sep. 15th, 2001 12:26 pmThursday night, I again went out to the movies, after carefully searching through what was being offered. I settled on Jurassic Park III, and the movie basically delivered. I decided not to see Captain Corelli's Mandolin, if only because all of the reviews on IMDB kept saying the book was tons better.
Last night, Lee stopped by after work and we went out to the Miyako in Clear Lake. She still can't bring herself to eat "real" sushi, so she had a California roll and some miso soup while I had some yellowtail, some tuna, and a couple of hand rolls. I probably should have gone on to Kemah to the Ichiban because that restaurant doesn't have televisions staring at you everywhere you turn, and I was not in a particularly television-watching mood last night.
Especially as my overall well-being was being eroded by whatever has its claws well and truly in me right now. The only "silver cloud" to this lining is that my flight out of here has been cancelled, as United is still not up to running its full schedule. Rumor has it I can use my ticket on Amtrack, except that I have an e-ticket and anyway, I'm sick, and I reserve the right to just lie in bed for a day or so and rest.
I started reading Homer Hickam, Jr.'s memoir Rocket Boys last night and finished it this morning, sleeping fitfully between chapters. The book was made into the movie October Sky, so I pretty much knew what to expect as I turned the pages. The movie pretty much followed the book, except that Homer's dad was made out to be a much less sympathetic hombre in the movie than in the book, and the character of his mother is better developed in the book as well.
I'm tired, and am going to go lie down.
Cheers...
