This ticks me off. I just got the assignment I was waiting for yesterday. The headers on the message show that it was received by my ISP 9 minutes after it had been sent... yesterday at about 1:15 pm my time.

Grrr.

No really big deal, I guess, as I was ill-prepared to start working on it yesterday because of the previous job, but still...

It looks like about 10,000 words, due by 7 am my time Monday.

Wheeee! (It's gonna be a fun couple of days!)

Cheers...

As I reviewed the acceptance test translation this morning, Galina looked up at me and reminded me that I needed to go open the store.

Drat.

By the time I got out of the store, it was past 11 am, and later, I had to drop what I was doing (translating) and go talk to the folks at the bank.

Double drat.

By the time I got home, I was not in any mood to work, so... I played hooky. I went into Drew's room and tuned in an ancient episode of Remington Steele (probably from early in the first season, since Brosnan's character was still trying to "fit in" to the ongoing charade that was the hallmark of the show). After that, I picked up Larry Niven's Ringworld and polished off the last 120 pages or so (I'd been reading it a few pages at a time for the past few days... got a big slug in -- about 100 pages -- last night as G was watching TV).

I finally got back to work and polished off about a quarter of what needs to be done. Based on what I see, I can do the remaining material easily over the weekend (assuming, of course, I'm not diverted to other duties). The reference materials sent by the client are actually pretty helpful (I translated part of them in the first go-around) and are keeping me on track.

Got a call later in the afternoon, from the same client (but a different project manager). It seems there's more rush work on the way, which I'll pick up just as soon as I deliver this assignment on Monday morning.

Drew just got back a few minutes ago from school and picking up Shannon and Huntur at the airport. Time to shut down the computers and go talk to family.

Cheers...

Fellow LJer [livejournal.com profile] avva has posted the text of an apropos work titled There Will Be No Peace, written by W.H. Auden in 1956.

The comments are of interest, too, though some are in Cyrillic.

Cheers...
