Having taken care of a number of details related to walking-around-and-scratching life, I started in on the steel tank spec a few minutes in front of 9 this morning. In the nearly six hours since then, I've translated ten pages of material.

Fortunately, a few of those pages had magnificent figures on them that were pretty much illegible. These are no great prize when it comes to payday, but right now, anything that will help me hack, slash, or wheeze my way toward the end of the assignment is appreciated. Total output for the day so far is just over 3400 words.

I'm taking a short break now, as I am about to tackle a 5-page section of pretty much solid text that ought to take - if experience is any guide - a little less than 4 hours to do.

I have begun to stock Natalie's old room upstairs as a study, to be distinguished from my office downstairs. I haven't undertaken this consciously; it's just that it's easier for me to read Bacon's essays - or a mystery novel - in the room upstairs than down here.

Time is the enemy. My birthday of last week only underscored the possibility - or near certainty, depending on how you look at it - of my being "nearer the end than the beginning," quoting Col. Nicholson as he stood with Saito on the completed bridge over the river Kwai.

Time is the enemy. There are so many things I want to do. To learn. To see. And though I know the path I must follow to accomplish my goals, doing the actual following is hard.

But then, Everything is Hard.

Back to work!

Cheers...
