No time... almost!
May. 18th, 2002 09:18 amAgainst my better judgment, I went to see Attack of the Clones with Lee. She had suggested we go to the 10:15 pm screening, but when 10:15 rolled around she was still at her computer, killing orcs (or whatever it is she does in her MUD). At about 10:20 pm, she popped her head into my bedroom, where I was quietly reading the second book of "the Seafort saga," a sci-fi series written by David Feintuch, and suggested we might go catch the 10:45 pm show. I assented.
We went and were able to get tickets only for the 11:15 pm show, as the 10:45 pm and 11:00 pm shows were sold out. We took our seats, began lining our insides with noxious goodies, and waited for the lights to go down. By the time the previews started, less than half the seats in the theater were occupied.
I'll spare you the details on the previews, the prospect of which made me happy that I live in a backwater such as Pagosa Springs, where there is little chance I'll happen to be downtown at the Liberty theater should any of these turkeys make it there.
In any event, Attack of the Clones was, for me, a confusing movie. As I have made no particular effort to "study" for this movie (as I did, inadvertently, for Dune some time ago by reading the book first), I was a little confused about The Republic and other parties to what eventually becomes known as "The Clone War." I don't know why they're fighting, either, though I suppose proponents of the Dark Side have a hand in it all.
Thus, for me the movie was a night's diversion and not something I'd necessarily go out of my way to see again. The computer effects were, as usual, well integrated. The visuals were, from time to time, impressive. The acting, in my opinion, was wooden, but then again I don't think there was ever any idea that this (or any other movie in the franchise) would ever compare with, say, Gone With The Wind.
Admittedly, I am in a less-than-ecstatic mood right now. The prospect of driving home is both liberating and something to be dreaded. Once home, I will have a completely different set of problems to address, but my stay here in Houston has this time (hopefully) instilled sufficient resolve in me to follow through on all of the brave words I've spoken, written, and thought with regard to getting myself out of the hole that I'm in. (One particular realization should be motiviation enough... but I don't want to go into that.)
The car's over one block getting its fluids changed, etc. and I am way behind schedule. Imay will end up leaving later than I expected, but I will leave today.
My next post, if all goes according to plan, will be made from Pagosa. Y'all be good now, y'heah?
Cheers...
