The VAIO shut down without a fuss last night, but refused to start up this morning. After cycling power, it decided it needed to boot into Safe Mode.

I seem to recall similar behavior in Kazakhstan, though I might not have made an issue of it at the time.

Safe Mode has come and gone, and the machine has now rebooted.

Now I'm off to put a dent in the Thursady assignment.

The first couple of pages of the current item on my plate took a bit of time as I tried to get my terminology down pat. By 10:00, I was starting to feel a little paranoid, since I had expected to be further along than I actually was, although in truth, I'd put nearly 2000 words down on phosphor.

I am pretty much done for the day (at least on this project). Without really driving myself, I've ended up with nearly 8000 words done, which is about 50% of the overall job and, by the way, a complete surprise to me. I'll not claim that this is some kind of personal best, but considering the rather small amount of repetition (I'd estimate around 5-10%), it's pretty good. I attribute my good fortune to a fairly clearly written document and the fact that I've translated about a gazillion words having to do with equipment testing, so the words flow freely from my fingertips.

I accepted a small, 600-source-word job for tomorrow, which I may do later tonight if the mood strikes me, or tomorrow morning as a warmup.

My mom called earlier in the afternoon, underscoring the fact that I neglected to call during the weekend (I had the best intentions, and we all know their worth as paving bricks). Everyone appears to be okay, except I didn't much like her summary of their situation, to wit: Neither of them is in the hospital right now.

Drew is going to come by, he says, a little later to help build the crate for the second elk head that we need to ship pronto. There's a taxidermist down the road who sells these things, which consist of what I believe to be elk skulls with racks of antlers still attached, all mounted nicely on a board. The problem with these things is that they take up a lot of volume and they're relatively fragile. The last time we shipped one of these items, the crating and shipping ran around $300, which is about twice what the item cost, unless I'm mistaken. We built one crate on Friday, and haven't done anything with it since, which reminds me... perhaps it would be a good idea to pack and enclose that crate so it'll be out of the way?

I sat down and knocked off the short item, so I'll only have to review it tomorrow morning before sending it off. So, overall... it's been a pretty productive day!

Drew called around 8:30, I think, and says he'll be by later, but it is well and truly dark right now and it was unpleasantly windy earlier, so I don't know what we'll do if and when he comes by.

I am definitely tired, that's for sure.

Cheers...
