A quiet day...
Aug. 3rd, 2003 08:46 pmNot much happened since yesterday, except I didn't go to work last night or today. My next assignment starts tomorrow at 7:30 am.
The Russians I work with decided to go home a little early yesterday, so I got home around 8:30 am and went immediately to sleep. I got up at around 1:30 pm, which made the rest of the day seem to go rather quickly.
Natalie and I went over to Sugarland, where we ended up eating in an Indian restaurant (I had mulligatawny soup and the spicy lamb curry... which turned out to be mildly spicy, despite the wicked grin on the lips of our waiter when I asked him about it), and then visiting Sam's Club for some provisions.
Today, most of the day was spent cleaning the place. I moved a bunch of stuff out of "my" bedroom to the back room, which made the former look much more livable and the latter much more, um, busy.
Dinner today was a romaine salad and some beef roast. I cooked the latter in a device that's touted by a former boxing champion, purporting to drain off excess fat. Though I didn't do a chemical analysis of the drippings, most of them appeared to be meat juices, and not fat. The result, however, was acceptable.
We watched Boondock Saints while we ate. This was my first viewing, and apparently, it's one of Natalie's favorite movies. The film didn't exactly vault itself onto my personal list of favorites, but I was impressed by the performance put in by Willem Dafoe as the quirky gay FBI agent.
None of the things I planned for today got done, but that doesn't worry me. As mentioned above, I did clean up the place a bit, and when Natalie and I went out in the middle of the day, I took advantage of it being a "tax-free" day (no sales tax on selected purchases, such as clothes and school supplies) and bought an pair of shorts (wearing long pants in this weather is silly).
The air conditioning is struggling to keep the place livable, and now that the sun has gone down, that's probably an attainable goal. Seeing as how it is the beginning of August, there's still quite a bit of summer left in this town, with plenty of potential for hot and muggy weather.
Cheers...
