Almost through the night...
Aug. 16th, 2003 06:45 amSometimes, the old ways are the best. Pushing the daily (nightly) Russian status report through something like Wordfast (or even TRADOS) has the pro of forcing you to look at every table cell, even if something like 95% of them are the same as yesterday. The con side is that moving through a table with a tool like Wordfast is a little like watching a teapot set on the stove to boil... the thing seems to take forever to get to the point of the exercise.
On the other hand, doing a new report on the basis of the previous day's report (use 'Save As...') and then carefully checking the appropriate items (i.e., less attention paid to make sure the left-hand column, with the various equipment designations, is right, and more attention paid to the right-hand column, which contains comments) makes the process go faster.
Just an observation, if you please.
And it sure is nice to remember to copy the final versions of the files from my machine to the appropriate drive on the network, so everyone can access them. The alternative (going home, leaving them on my hard drive) would be rather embarrassing.
So, assuming I can bring my yawning under control, how shall I spend the day? (I slept poorly last night... someone watched Boondock Saints at around 8 pm last night, and despite the low volume, I still heard it. Or dreamt I heard it.)
Part of me wants to go to the beach, except not to the beach in Galveston. (Maybe something further south?) OTOH, going down highway 288 to Lake Jackson (~45 miles from Pearland, according to MapQuest) seems like an awful far piece to go (I'm spoiled, aren't I?) to spend a relatively brief period on the sand (it'll take me about 10 minutes to burn if I slop on sunscreen; without sunscreen, I have a tendency to turn red in real time).
I notice I am also going through a period of parenthetical infatuation (my alter ego requires an outlet, dontcha know!). Either that, or I really miss my days programming in LISP.
(CAADADDAAADR yourself!)
Theoretically, only a little over 2 hours left in this support session. We'll see how close practice comes to theory.
Cheers...
