Live free or malloc!

On a more serious note, an article in Linux Journal renewed my interest in reinstalling kismet on my Zaurus.

The kismet application is a wireless network sniffer, i.e., it puts the Z into a mode where it detects whether it is in range of any 802.11b wireless network, and outputs appropriate data on the network to the Z's screen.

While the Z was on my mind, I also installed an OpenSSH client on the machine, which means I can now log into onegin from the Z and check my e-mail remotely. Too bad the MCC is a "transmission free" zone (prominent signs warn against having powered cell phones, etc., but there are wireless access points inside the building... go figure), not that it matters, because NASA is (rightfully) pretty paranoid as to what goes into and out of its networks, especially those that involve the ISS as part of the topology.

I was pretty tired when I arrived home yesterday after my shift. So tired, that I went to bed without eating (a Good Thing™). I slept until shortly after noon, at which point I managed to waste a bunch of time, open a checking account (free checking, free internet access) with a bank that has an office in Pagosa, do some translation (3200 words left of the current assignment), and again go to sleep in preparation for this shift.

It seems that eventually, when I work the night shift like this, I fall into a bifurcated sleep schedule: a few hours in the morning after work, and a few hours in the evening before work. I'm not going to go against the flow, here, since I only have the rest of this shift and four more to go before going home.

Cheers...
