Deluged with work...
Dec. 1st, 2003 10:06 pmI found out just how much I am in demand for the office job today when someone tried to hijack me for a session with the Execute Package on Wednesday. I believe the answer, in no uncertain terms, was not only "no," but "hell no." (I did, however, manage to get assigned to the day shift of space-to-ground this Saturday.)
Moreover, as the sun set majestically late this afternoon, I managed to accumulate a nice plate full of work, although most of it was for tonight. I am done now, having translated the text of three documents, eaten dinner, and watched (incompletely) the sorry excuse for a movie titled Hulk, which made me positively pine for old Bill Bixby/Lou Ferrigno reruns.
Natalie remarked how the movie tried to imitate The Matrix in its general look and feel, and to no avail. Me, I'm just a simple country boy, and couldn't tell you about how Hulk compares and contrasts with The Matrix. All I can say is that I have seen better film on rocks after the tide has gone out.
Compare this to About a Boy, which I watched last night and enjoyed (although it is finally getting through to me that Hugh Grant is not really an actor, but merely a character with the same personality and traits that reappears in movie after movie).
* * * Just had an inspiring conversation with Tanya G., an interpreter from Chicago, who called to touch base. It was her I replaced last May/June in Kazakhstan, because she had a prior commitment somewhere else. Moreover, I recall we had an interesting conversation in Phoenix about the proper handling of client expectations. She is a very sharp negotiator, too, and was kind enough to share some of her negotiating techniques with me just now.
* * * I found it difficult to get up in the morning, and did so only at 7:15 am. This made me arrive at the office later than I would have preferred. On the other hand, I did get almost 8 hours of editing under my belt today.
Not to mention the three translations, which I shall review one more time tomorrow before leaving for work.
Cheers...
