I was just standing there, officer...
Jan. 25th, 2004 06:57 pmI didn't mean to, but ended up rearranging my office today.
I had wanted to go somewhere - preferably Santa Fe - but the weather this morning looked like it meant business and even let a few flakes loose as a warning. As it turns out, the threat of weather was as hollow as a politician's promise, and made up mostly of posturing and puffing out its chest.
I cut the number of computers around here from 4 to 2. I'll keep the old desktop around, just in case I need to get something off the hard drive, but essentially, I haven't turned it on in a couple of weeks, so I may set it up in the room next door. As far as the other "cut" computer, well... while I really like Linux, I figure I really don't need to have it on two machines, at least not at the same time next to one another (especially as my recent "upgrade" on the Dell system overwhelmed the CPU, so that X Windows runs a little like Wesley Clark, oblivious to any need for speed).
Speaking of the "suite" next door, I moved the stereo that had been in my office there and set up a VHS cassette player, too. The idea is that I might have something to listen to (Spanish lessons) or watch (anything at all) while exercising on the NordicTrack that we bought back in... as it turns out... 1992, and which stands in the middle of the back room.
I finished the translation last night (which pretty much guaranteed this morning's threatening weather, I would expect). It's nice not to have anything to have to do, if even for a day.
It strikes me that I'm going to need a lamp in my new work place. That, and if I can figure out how to set it up under Win2K, my cam.
Cheers...
