Two days in a row...
Feb. 29th, 2004 06:12 pmThe remaining translation simply looked a lot more imposing that it actually was, and it was merely a question of slogging through the words all the way to the end. While I translated, Galina took off to look at a property and Natalie returned from a night out with friends.
I did a quick review of the work, packaged it for delivery, and sent it off, before taking Natalie for a drive down highway 518 toward 288, to see what kind of stores are there.
I had imagined, borrowing a line from Gertrude Stein, that I'd find more "there" there. Besides a so-so shopping center just at the intersection with 288, where one might find the usual suspects (Ross, Marshalls, and a Starbucks coffee shop), there really isn't much available.
We returned in time for me to rejoin Galina, who'd returned from her sojourn, and for Natalie to go meet with friends.
I finally broke down and spent $8 on an antenna for the television, so now we get about a dozen channels of commercially available stuff. I did this for the express purpose of watching the Academy Awards show tonight, and to head off additional expenses associated with renting movies.
First of all, there aren't a heck of a lot of movies I'm really interested in renting, and certainly not at about $4 a pop (even if they do let you keep them for several days). On the other hand, there are times you just want to watch the news or something innocuous.
Or have I become an unwitting pawn of the video axis?
I don't really think so. After making sure the antenna works (more or less), the television has been turned back off until later.
Cheers...
