The game is afoot!
Mar. 24th, 2004 09:42 pmActually, it's not a foot, it's more... a nose!
Just kidding.
Two short documents came in over the transom today, for Friday. I pretty much forgot it was Wednesday when I said I'd do the job, but the documents are fairly short (less than 900 words each), so it should not be a big deal.
Except I don't feel like working tonight.
Anyway, the subject is... I better not say, but a wonderful playground for using a lot of words to say little. One of said words was "транспорентность," which comes up a blank in all of my standard references. So, I went on the Runet and looked around.
Among the results of a Yandex search, I found this:
So, does транспорентность = transparency? If so, what is wrong with the excellent and serviceable прозрачность, which is the word that pops into my poor brain when thoughts of transparency come a-meddling (in Russian)?
Something tells me that if I could adequately answer that, I might just become world famous.
Next, I go visit here:
It sort of makes me do a little dance!
So, "transparency" it is. (And the icing on the cake is: it makes sense in context. To the extent that any of this stuff makes any sense.)
I'm off to finish the sentence, and then go upstairs and paint something, just so I can watch the paint dry.
Cheers...

[My emphasis]The money quote here is the aside - еще одно иностранное модное слово - which means "yet another fashionable foreign word."

В завтрашнем докладе А.Козлов изложит план действий Банка России на ближайшие два года, в числе которых совершенствование банковского надзора, повышение транспорентности (прозрачности), модернизация банковского сектора и пр. [My emphasis]Notice how the writer has decided to help the hapless reader, by inserting the "normal" word (прозрачность) after транспорентность.
It sort of makes me do a little dance!
