Here and there...

The other day, while en route from the Polyet hotel toward the полтинник, the driver suddenly swerved across the road, as if to bring the car to a position where he could roll down his window and talk to a woman who was crossing the street in front of us. Then he motioned the woman toward the passenger side of the vehicle. The woman complied. The driver then zoomed past her, and delivered us to our destination.

The behavior was explained by the fact that the woman was carrying an empty bucket, and that it is considered bad ju-ju for a person carrying a bucket to cross your path, at least in these parts.

Live and learn.

Two nights ago, I played another game with Dave G. The game ended in a draw. I outplayed Dave in the opening, lost the middlegame, but came back in the endgame, which ought to give me some kind of hint regarding how to handle this kind of opponent.

In other news, today has been a quiet day. My planned trip to the pad to help Astrium check out communications between there and the control room (пультовая) has been put off until tomorrow, and in fact I may not be the person assigned to the task, but we'll see.

Time to wander downstairs to see what's for dinner.
