...but not with mushrooms!

Huntür came over this morning and after a meal of beef, onion, and bolete, we all set off (with sunscreen and Deet) to see what we could find by walking in the woods. My intended target was up at Lobo Point, which is up above the Wolf Creek Pass.

We first made a detour down the road I visited last Sunday, but didn't go down to the trailhead. Instead, we parked near a small pool where folks were trying their luck at fishing, and walked along the stream that was exiting the pool. I found two small boletes (Suillis, if I'm not mistaken), and everything else was too dry to try to identify. Huntür spent most of her time throwing rocks and dry pine cones in the stream.

Eventually, we did go up to Lobo Point, and while Galina and Huntür walked around the overlook, I grabbed the 'shroom bucket and headed down the road that had brought us to the summit.

I veered off the road early, to walk cross-country, and spent about 15 minutes in the trees before Galina picked me up in the Ford. In all that time, I saw two small, dry brown mushrooms.

It must be too early for mushrooms up there. If I do go mushroom hunting again before going to Houston next week, it'll probably be back into the Weminuche wilderness, via the Rainbow Trail.

In other news, the Perseids are supposed to peak tonight and tomorrow nights. Last night, I went outside around 10 pm and saw two earthgrazers (low in the sky, slow) within about 90 seconds, but didn't have the patience to get properly dressed and set up any kind of viewing station away from the house and the local light pollution.

Cheers...
