Back at the old stomping grounds...
Sep. 16th, 2004 09:01 pmWe finally left for Colorado a little at 4 am yesterday morning, and since we had to stop at a vendor's site near Dallas on the way back to pick up boxes, I had a feeling we'd be pulling into our driveway around midnight, which is a little late for my taste. In the end, my estimate was about 12 minutes off.
Galina had done an excellent job of ordering boxes, which are a fairly basic component of our business. If you don't have boxes, you can't pack stuff, or send it. Initially, however, the sight of two pallets of boxes at the loading dock made my heart sink: how were we going to fit all those boxes into the van? I started having visions of leaving behind my roll-on case so we could get all the banded packages of flattened boxes stowed in the vehicle. In the end, we did have to leave behind a package of 12x12x12 boxes so we could see out the back window, but everything else managed to get shoehorned in, including my roll-on.
I got up early this morning to go to the store and pick up some fresh creamer, bread, and butter, so Galina and I could have coffee and buttered bread for breakfast. I started to feel that such an early wakeup had been premature around noontime, when fatigue overtook me and I took a nap. When I got up, Drew and Huntür were at our place. A few minutes later, I was going back to the store with Drew.
Despite not having any instructions, I was able to dope out how to install the partition panel with little problem. When Galina came by at the end of the day, I added the second panel. The good news is that the "office" area is now pretty private; the problem is that it may be too private.
I missed a job from a good client, who reports that things in general have been pretty slow. July was slow for me, and August would've been slow except for the Houston trip (although that's a little like saying, "business would have been slow if I didn't have so many customers").
Since there was nothing in the house to eat upon our return, and since Galina has a medical appointment in Durango tomorrow, we decided she'd shop for victuals there tomorrow after her appointment, which gave us an opportunity to visit a place called The Office here in Pagosa.
Desipite the name, The Office is a place that basically offers a place you can order a drink, knosh on a fairly limited menu (posole and enchiladas today), and talk with people. It differs from most bars in that most of the seating is away from the bar in an almost living-room kind of arrangement, and several groups were there with kids. There was a very "homey" feel about the place. Galina and I took a table on the verandah, overlooking a disused sand volleyball court and a magnificent view of the Continental Divide.
Cheers...
