A pox on eFax!
Oct. 1st, 2004 10:34 amWhen I tried to send a fax from PaperPort via eFax Messenger Plus, my VAIO informed me something was wrong (the fax driver was corrupt and needed to be reinstalled) which meant I had to reinstall eFax. In the end, I had to upgrade the eFax software for the farblegargling thing to work, and once that task was accomplished (four reboots!), it took another half hour to figure out how the new eFax software is supposed to work -- because the new version doesn't have the same feature set as the old version -- and another half hour to figure out it wasn't working!
Mostly, the problem had to do with the new version's insistence that I either use Windows Messenger to send my fax data (fat chance of me ever activating Messenger) or an external e-mail program. Of course, Mozilla's mailer is not supported, except in a very general way. So general, that the "To:" address generated for the fax is wrong!
In the end, I spent a little over an hour reinventing the wheel, only to find the road filled with potholes (and a sinkhole). I ultimately had to send the fax "by hand" if there was to be any chance at all of the recipient getting it before the start of the next Ice Age.
Idiots.
Cheers...
