An early Christmas present...
Dec. 24th, 2004 06:56 pmThe only thing Drew and Shannon said they wanted for Christmas was a genuine day off today. No coming in to do the report, or to sort the mail, or anything of the sort. Just a day off.
They got their wish.
Galina and I ended up fielding a number of calls from irate customers, whose overnight and second-day packages had gotten caught in the bad weather back East for both UPS and Federal Express. Bad weather, you see, offers an "out" to both services, meaning that they don't refund the cost of shipping if tardy delivery is caused by the weather. I finished with the last phone call shortly after we closed, an hour early, at 5 pm. I did manage, however, to get a couple of overdue cards and letters into the mail, as well as pick up a new set of meds for my trip.
The young lady who keeps our books brought in the computer we're letting her use, and when Internet Explorer took on a life of its own upon launch, I shut the system down and ran Ad-Aware, which found over 100 items that needed deletion. Unfortunately, nothing happened upon attempting to delete the items, so I brought the unit home and will probably try to eliminate the crap by hand, as most of it resides in the registry.
For me, the year at the store is over. My departure is in less than 48 hours, and according to NOAA, the weather here and in Denver will be clear on Sunday, so it would appear that my drive-to-Denver contingency is not very likely.
Tomorrow is the Big Day, and I having Natalie with us in Pagosa adds quite a bit to the holiday spirit. I'm looking forward to going to the kids' place tomorrow to see Huntür's reaction to Christmas morning.
Dinner this evening was a variant of surf-n-turf, namely: scallops and lamb. The jury is still out, methinks. I liked it.
Cheers...
