At Baikonur...
Dec. 28th, 2004 08:51 pmToday was a fairly straightforward day. I got up at 4:20 am and was ready to go by 5:30 am. Unlike previous trips, the hotel dining room was not open for an early breakfast, so we all left for the airport with empty stomachs.
The weather was clear upon arrival at Baikonur, with about as much snow on the ground as there was in Pagosa when I left on Sunday. It took me about 30 seconds to unpack my staged bag (two pair of underwear and an extra change of socks), and then I took a short nap before the evening safety briefing.
Dinner was nice, and the post-dinner fellowship with the other interpreters was a good bonding experience. I managed to insert a toast to Galina, whom I married 28 years ago today in Moscow. (I love you, babe!)
Work will proceed full bore tomorrow, in preparation for arrival of the spacecraft the day after tomorrow. I am dead tired, having gotten very little sleep last night, none on the plane, and suffering from jet lag in general.
Cheers...
